BISC NEWSLETTER – MAY 2008

MANY MEETS COMING UP:  Post your copy of the BISC Meet Schedule and plan your Spring/Summer Meet Schedule.  Please observe the early meet entry deadlines so we will not be left out of meets this season.  We have added meets that are not listed on our Blue Paper Meet Schedule, so check for additional meets to enter.  Some of the new meets are the short course yard meet the end of May, West Coast Invitational in June, the Titlow Clasic in June and Moses Lake, July 9-11.  And new and younger swimmers don’t forget the in-house meets scheduled for 5-6 pm on 6/19 and 7/24. 

BISC BLUE FINS AWARDS BANQUET:  JUNE 1, 2008, 3-5 PM, ISLAND CENTER HALL.   Look for team most inspirational swimmer ballot.  Also fill out the scholarship award application for swimmer recognition at banquet.  

LONG COURSE TRAINING:  BISC will again be training long course for our more serious  swimmers at Titlow Pool on M & W 9:30-11:30 am, beginning June 23.  Ability and workout attendance is a pre-requisite for attending these workouts.  A sign up is at the pool site.  Seats on the Pk Dept Van are limited.  Additional swimmers may attend if they have transportation.  The fee is $8 per swim. 

MAY 8 INTERSQUAD DUAL MEET:  The 5-7 pm workout time on this Thursday will be devoted to an inter-squad dual meet.  There will not be any other practices on that Thursday except for the Intersquad Meet 5-7 pm.  Swimmers must sign up for this event no later than May 1 if you plan to swim.  The team captains are Mikelle Ackerley and Kim Williams.  Captains will be choosing teams on May 2.  Check the bulletin board for order of events. 

SUMMER WORKOUT SCHEDULE:  A new Swim Team Brochure is now available for team members with the summer workout schedule beginning June 23 thru August. 

10 & UNDER SWIM CLINIC:  The BISC coaches are sponsoring a swim clinic for 10 & unders on Sunday, May 25, 9 am – 3 pm at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center.  We have several swimmers from other PNS Swim Teams.  A Registration Form is in your folder and posted on the BISC Bulletin Board.  

2:30 – 4 PM PRACTICE IS CANCELLED ON MAY 15.  Swim 5-6:30pm that day.

SPRING BREAK PRACTICE SCHEDULE: March 31-April 4 Jr's & Level 2 swimmers T/Th 8-9 am. Levels 3,4&5 M-F 10-noon. No Sat Apr 5th practice.

CONGRATULATIONS BISC SECTIONAL SWIMMERS: Out of 88 teams from Alaska, Hawaii, Inland Empire, Montana, Oregon, Pacific Northwest, Snake River, and Wyoming our 17 entries placed 7th overall. The top team point winners wereMikelle Ackerley, Natalie Ackerley, Spencer Alpaugh, Alison Brooks, Andrew McCarthy, Todd McCarthy ,Anna Peirano, Jack Peirano, Julie Pendleton, Marcus Tonsmann, CJ Waite and Kim Williams (10 & under high point winner) . Team records were set by Todd, Kim, Andrew, CJ, Alison Natalie and Mikelle.

FAR WESTERN ENTRIES: The following BISC swimmers leave for Pleasanton California the first week of April: Sam Alpaugh, Spencer Alpaugh, Alison Brooks, Cameo Hlebasko, Kayla Estes, Andrew McCarthy, Todd McCarthy, Anna Peirano, Jack Peirano, Kay Sterner and CJ Waite. Good Luck swimmers.

FAR WESTERN WARMUP ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2nd 3-5pm

PLAN YOUR SPRING/SUMMER MEETS: The first long course meet BISC entries have already closed. Be sure to study the entry deadlines and get your entry in early so we don't get cut out of meets like we did last year. Ask a coach if you are in doubt as to which meets to enter. Some meets have disqualifying time standards and others have time standards you must meet to enter. We have been promised that the Moses Lake meet is going to be limited in number so it will be a better organized meet this summer. At the BISC Board Meeting this meet may be added to out meet schedule.

TEAM INTERSQUAD DUAL MEET: This dual meet will be held during our regular practice time on Thursday, May 8th in celebration of Alison's & Bob's birthday. Team captains will be chosen and swimmers must sign up on the team bulletin board. Captains will choose teams for this event.

FERRYBOAT SPRINTS: Don't miss our own Ferryboat Sprint meet on Saturday, April 19th. Entries are now being accepted and entries will close on April 3rd.  

BISC TEAM CAPTAINS: Be thinking about new team captains for next year. See Susan Waite for more information on team captains.

BISC TEAM RECORD BREAKERS:  Congratulations to our many new team record holders. Look at our team record board and congratulate the new BISC record breakers. The board will be updated after Age Group Sectionals March 14-16.

AGE GROUP SECTIONAL BISC SWIMMERS: We are looking for many personal best times this year from our BISC entries in the Age Group Sectionals at WKCAC March 14-16. BISC team members include:* Mikelle Ackerley,* Natalie Ackerley,* Sam Alpaugh, *Spencer Alpaugh, *Alison Brooks, Colin Chupik, Cameo Hlebasco, Geneva Levy, *Andrew McCarthy,* Todd McCarthy,*Anna Peirano,* Jack Peirano, Julie Pendleton, *Kay Sterner, *Marcus Tonsmann, *CJ Waite and *Kim Williams. * Qualified in the top 16 for Age Group Sectionals.

SPRING BREAK PRACTICE SCHEDULE: March 31-April 4 Jr's & Level 2 T/TH 8-9 am. Levels 3-4-5 M-F 10am 12 noon. No Sat April 5th workout.  

FAR WESTERN ENTRIES ARE DUE:  Swimmers and parents are reminded to get their entries in for this meet on their own. If you have trouble placing your entries on line, consult with Patti. Group entries are not acceptable.

MARCH 22, SPRING GRAND CHALLENGE MEET:  This is the last meet in March and it has disqualification times.

APRIL 19th FERRYBOAT SPRINTS:   All BISC Swimmers should enter this home meet. 

PACIFIC COAST INVITE @ WKCAC MAY 16-18: Entries due no later than March 25. Check the Spring/Summer meet schedule for Long Course. Note entry deadlines are early so we don't get bumped from meets like last year.

IMPROVEMENT SET: We have been doing the IMPROVEMENT SET now for one year.   We will be doing this set early next week and post results for those who make all ten send-offs. So of you are ready to make 10X100 on a 1:05 send-off. Remember, if you miss a send off you must get out of the water and stay out until the set is over. Team send-offs are 1:05, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20, 1:25, 1:30, 1:40 and 1:45.

BISC SECTIONAL SWIMMERS: There will be a meeting at the pool on Friday, March 7th at 4-4:45 for those who qualified and level 4&5 swimmers.
